What we do, and what we don’t

Road Refined offers a form-filling and fax service. We are not lawyers, we don’t give legal advice, and we don’t decide whether your request is valid or whether it will be accepted. Only the SAAQ reviews the request and makes the decision.

In practice, we put your request on the official form, check that nothing is missing (seizure report number, signature, attached documents), write up your explanation in French from what you tell us, and fax it to the SAAQ. The facts you declare are yours and you are responsible for them.

FAQ

Do you guarantee my vehicle will be released?

No. The SAAQ reviews every request and decides on its own. We send your request as you declare it. Under SAAQ policy, when the owner was not the driver, it looks in particular at how credible the explanation is and what checks were made on the driver’s licence.

How long does a seizure last?

Depending on the reason, a seizure lasts 7, 30 or 90 days. The end date is on the seizure report. A release request is how you get the vehicle back before that date.

How does the SAAQ respond?

According to SAAQ policy, an approval is given by phone, using the contact details on the form, and a refusal is mailed to the owner’s address. We don’t receive the decision on your behalf.

Do I still have to pay the impound lot?

Yes. Even if the release is granted, the owner pays the towing and storage fees directly to the impound lot to get the vehicle back.

Which cases don’t go through this form?

Seizures linked to street racing or vehicle “surfing” go to the Court of Québec. If the owner was driving and the seizure comes from extreme speeding, impaired driving or failing to stop for police, the owner should request a review of the licence suspension instead. In those cases we don’t send the release form and we contact you.

What documents should I have ready?

The seizure report (photo), the registration certificate, the rental or car-sharing agreement (for example, the Turo agreement) and any useful proof, like a screenshot showing the driver’s licence was checked. A photo from your phone is enough.

I’m not the registered owner. Can I still do this?

Yes, if the owner authorized you to act on their behalf. You enter the owner’s details on the form and sign as their representative. The form then asks for a power of attorney signed by the owner. Don’t have one? Our form offers a template to print, have signed and photograph.

Where can I find the official form?

The “Demande de mainlevée de saisie de véhicule” form is published by the SAAQ on saaq.gouv.qc.ca. You can fill it in and send it yourself for free. Our service saves you time if you have no printer or fax.
